Why is my available balance different to my holdings?
You may notice that sometimes your available balance for an asset is less than your total holdings of that asset, this is because available balance refers to the amount of funds that you can freely use for new trades or withdrawals, excluding any funds that are currently in-transit or tied up in open orders. It represents the portion of your account balance that is immediately accessible and not locked into pending transactions or existing trade positions.
Funds-in-transit:
These include deposits or withdrawals that have not yet been confirmed or processed. When you initiate a deposit or withdrawal on BTC Markets, it may take some time for the transaction to be confirmed by the network, or for us to process the transaction. During this time, those funds are considered "in-transit" and are not part of your available balance.
Funds in open orders:
Open orders are active trade positions that you have placed but have not yet been executed or fulfilled. When you create a buy or sell order, the corresponding amount of funds from your available balance is reserved for that order, and it's not available for any other trades until the order is executed or canceled.
